Tips for buying a work of art
How to choose an artwork?
To choose a work of art, you need to trust yourself and know what you are aiming for. Art generally meets one or more of these four objectives: emotional, cognitive, financial and social.
Emotive: This work moves you; you have a big crush; when you are in front of it, something happens that you are not necessarily able to explain; it makes you feel good!
Cognitive: This work makes sense in your life; it nourishes reflection and questioning; you take pleasure in putting it in context in relation to other artistic currents; this work nourishes your intellect.
Financial: The work you have chosen may increase in value; the artist has a thriving career: museums, companies, collectors are interested in and support the artist’s work.
Social: You have acquired a work by an emerging artist, and now that it is recognized, you are happy to have discovered and supported it; you are proud to present your work to those around you; your work has allowed you to create new contacts as well as enrich your social life.
Once your goals are determined, you can give yourself a budget and time, ask questions, find out about the work you are interested in and learn more about the artist.
These steps will allow you to choose a significant work that you will enjoy living with and that will have important repercussions for you on many levels.
Do you need a lot of money to buy art?
The most important thing to acquire a work of art is not money, but trust: trust in yourself, in your judgement and determination. Confidence that you will not miss the amount invested, that you will find solutions to make ends meet. Confidence in the artists, their abilities and in their work. The work will remind you of this confidence every day and will nourish your self-esteem.
I love a work, but I don’t think I can afford it. What can you do for me?
We do everything possible to facilitate the acquisition of works of art. Contact our team who will take the time to listen to your needs and find a solution adapted to your reality, for example through our interest-free financing formula.
Will my artwork increase in value?
This is a question that is difficult to answer with certainty. However, our methodical selection of artists and their works can help increase your chances.
Is it possible to resell my artwork?
The primary purpose of acquiring an artwork should not be resale, at least in the short term. However, it is true that some artists eventually develop a sufficient market to ensure an interesting resale value, but it is a process that takes time. In the end, those who have taken the time to make thoughtful choices are more likely to have works with good resale potential in their hands. By doing business with Artroduction, you put all the chances on your side.
Why are the artworks framed?
The framing of a work on paper is necessary to ensure optimal long-term conservation. It can be fitted with glass or Plexiglas with or without UV and/or anti-reflection protection. Artroduction opts for frames with glass and uses Plexiglas in specific cases. As for the frame, it can be made of various materials such as wood, metal, plastic. We prefer natural wood for its physical and aesthetic qualities. Usually, the choice of the frame is made in close collaboration with the artist, the framer and Artroduction.
Can I choose to have my work framed myself?
It is possible, but you may pay virtually the same or higher price for inferior quality and the work may not be done to the required standards. In the long run, a poor choice of framing could damage the work irreversibly. Compare our prices, taking into account the quality of the materials and you will be convinced.
How do I well preserve my work?
The works proposed by Artroduction do not generally require any particular maintenance. For framed works, regular dusting is recommended. The glass and Plexiglas can be cleaned with a soft cloth slightly moistened with water. It is recommended not to use glass cleaner or detergent.
It is also recommended to install the works on paper and paintings in a place where the lighting will be indirect. Avoid, for example, putting them in direct sunlight.
For other works, the Artroduction team will provide you with specific instructions for conservation and maintenance, if necessary.
What is an edition?
In the case of photographs, prints, new media or three-dimensional works, a number of editions may be indicated. This means that the work is sold in a specific number of identical or slightly different copies (variable edition). The prints offered by Artroduction are very limited — 2, 3, 4 or 5. This practice makes it possible, among other things, to make the acquisition of certain works more affordable while preserving their rarity. Once the total number of editions sold has been reached, no further copies will be printed or created. Each work sold in an edition on Artroduction is identified to show you the edition number you have in your hands. In addition, you may come across the mention “edition of 3 + 1 A.P.” during your research. This means that three editions of the work exist and an artist’s proof—an additional copy—is available for the artist’s personal use. This edition is generally used as a technical reference and can also serve as an exhibition copy that the artist can present in the context of his artistic practice.
How does Artroduction work?
How to find an artwork on Artroduction
Artroduction offers two possibilities:
Through the Artists menu: you can discover the works of the artist you have selected in order to get to know his or her world better.
Through the Art menu: you can discover works by selecting your search criteria (medium, provenance and price of the works).
When you have selected a work, the following information is displayed: the title of the work, the name of the artist, the price, the year of creation, the materials, the dimensions and the number of editions (if applicable).
A choice of framing will be offered for two-dimensional works. The price will be adjusted according to the selected framing.

How does the delivery of the works work?
When you finalize your purchase, delivery options will be offered to you, and of course, you can choose to pick up your work at Galerie 3 located at 247, Saint-Vallier Est in Quebec City. You can also choose delivery. When you click on your basket, you will be asked to enter the delivery address and a price will be indicated. For works requiring special transportation (e.g. large format works), a quote from a specialized art carrier will be provided after your purchase.
Artroduction insures the works until delivery to your home. In addition, the carrier will ask you for a signature upon receipt of the work.
When unpacking the artwork, if you notice a breakage due to transport, please take some pictures and contact us. Our team will guide you to ensure your complete satisfaction.

You can pay by credit card via the secure PayPal site or you can contact us to arrange another method of payment (cheque, Interac transfer, bank transfer). Please note that transactions on our website are secure.
Can I return my artwork?
