Gabrielle
Lajoie-Bergeron
Through a feminist approach, Gabrielle Lajoie-Bergeron's explorations focus on the notions of territory and belonging. Through a series of paintings, drawings, sculptures, embroideries, collected or donated objects, as well as snippets of text, the artist questions the cuts outs and interpretations of the world, the body and history. Working on the normative codes conveyed in the archetypes of the female figure, she is interested in the way in which the same representation can be both a source of domination and emancipation.
Gabrielle Lajoie-Bergeron lives and works between Montreal, La Malbaie and Baltimore. She holds a master's degree in visual and media arts from the Université du Québec à Montréal (2014) and is the recipient of numerous awards and grants, including the Plein sud grant (2016). Her work has been presented in Canada, Europe, Argentina and Africa.
