I went to White Sands in New Mexico. My friend was walking in the distance, and I had the impression that he was the same size as the trees. Things far away seemed close, and things close looked distant. In that desert landscape, I was not able to calculate scale in relation to my body. Sticks pushed by the wind left ephemeral marks of their passage. The sand was shaped in ripples by the wind. The light was so bright, and the white ground reminded me of the snowy land to the North where I grew up. My sense of place and scale were disturbed.
