Paravent - Ingrid Tremblay

Le travail artisanal de l’œuvre textile Paravent laisse transparaître la présence de la main. Deux paysages ont été imprimé sur du tissu, découpé en bandes et tissé ensemble à la main dans un processus lent suivant le rythme du corps. De loin, la pièce apparaît comme un rectangle dans l'espace, une image de paysage. L'image semble floue, pixélisée et devient presque une texture. En recoupant les images fusionnées - un désert et un rivage - le mouvement du tissu dans Paravent reproduit presque le mouvement des vagues, tandis que l'immobilité de la structure rappelle le paysage désertique. De près, la sculpture agit comme un objet en rapport avec le corps. Lorsque nous la contournons, la forme rectangulaire de Paravent devient tridimensionnelle et même sinueuse. La relation figure-fond est floue, nous rappelant que le contour des choses est moins défini dans le monde naturel. Les paysages fusionnés nous rappellent également la manière dont les souvenirs se fondent les uns dans les autres, altèrent notre perception et donnent un nouveau sens au présent.

The labour in the craft of the textile structure Paravent indicate presence of the hand. Two landscapes were printed on fabric, cut into strips and woven together by hand, one at the time, in a slow process paced with the body. From a distance the piece appears as a rectangle in space, an image of landscape. The image seems blurry, pixelated and almost becomes a texture. Referencing the images merged together—a desert and a shore— the movement of the fabric in Paravent almost replicates the motion of waves, while the stillness of the structure is reminiscent of the dry landscape. Close up, the sculpture act like objects that relates to the body. When we walk around it, the body-sized rectangular shape of Paravent becomes three-dimensional and even curvy. The figure-ground relationship is blurred reminding us that the contour of things is less defined in the natural world. The merged landscapes also remind us of the way memories blend into one another, altering our perception and giving new meaning to the present.
